Not a fall season goes by without apples taking centre stage in our kitchens —in pies, sauces, crisps, salads, with pork—they’re everywhere!
High in fibre and bursting with vitamins and minerals, they’re the snack of choice. Explore the many ways you can enjoy the bounty of our orchards!
How to pick
To choose the freshest apples, look for fruits with smooth, shiny, even skin and no spots. If you find the flesh soft to the touch, it means the apple has a floury/mealy texture! How to store
Keep apples in a cool, dry, and ventilated place—and make sure there are no rotten apples in the bunch. One rotten apple can really spoil the rest! You can also store them in the fridge to keep them from ripening too fast. Avoid washing apples in advance as they won’t keep as long, and never store apples with onions or potatoes. How to prepare
Both sweet and tart, apples are as versatile as they come! – For a delicious apple sauce, boil apples in a bit of water, brown sugar, lemon, and a dash of cinnamon, then purée in a blender. – For the perfect side to roast chicken, bake apple wedges along with your root vegetables and drizzle with oil. – For a quick apple pie, fill a store-bought pie crust with apple sauce, top with a layer of sliced apples, sprinkle with a few dabs of butter, and bake!Quebec apples
