For Christmas this year… we’re playing with food! With the right ingredients and ideas, your pantry is an easy source of Christmas decorations. Here are four simple decoration projects to bring a touch of magic to your home.
CINNAMON STICK CANDLES
Secret ingredient: cinnamon sticks
Other materials: a candle in a glass jar, hot glue and a pretty ribbon
This little project is as easy as can be! Align and attach the cinnamon sticks to the candle with hot glue and tie the ribbon around them for a fancy finish.
Crafty tip: if you don’t have hot glue, use a rubber band to attach the cinnamon sticks to the candle and hide it with the ribbon.
COOKIE GARLAND
Secret ingredient: your favourite cookie recipe
Other materials: cookie icing, small candies and ribbon
After cutting out your cookies, poke two small holes into each one before baking. Once baked and cooled, decorate the cookies with icing and small candies if desired, and thread the ribbon to create a delicious garland.
Crafty tip: make a hole at the top of your cookies to create individual ornaments to hang on the tree.

FESTIVE CENTREPIECE
Secret ingredient: fresh cranberries
Other materials: clear vases, water and floating candles
Fill the vases with water, add the fresh cranberries and floating candles and you’re done! Liven up your centrepiece with pine tree cuttings and pinecones for a quick and easy “wow” effect.
Crafty tip: replace the cranberries with rosemary sprigs and citrus slices.
CITRUS WREATH
Secret ingredient: your favourite citrus fruits
Other materials: a handmade wreath and hot glue
Cut the citrus fruits into thin slices and place on cookie sheets lined with parchment paper. Bake for 4–5 hours in a preheated oven at the lowest possible temperature, turning the slices every half hour. Once dehydrated, attach the citrus slices to the handmade wreath with hot glue. Add more decorations if desired.
Crafty tip: use different citrus fruits to vary the size and hue of the slices. Orange, lemon, lime and pink grapefruit will create a wonderful variety of shapes and colours.
