Ingredients

olive oil

1 pork shoulder, deboned
1.5 kg
2 cups
lager
500 ml

maple syrup

onion, peeled and quartered

head of garlic, cut in half

sprigs rosemary
4
sprigs thyme
Salt and pepper

Directions

Step 1
Generously season the meat with salt and pepper. Heat the oil in a pan and sear the pork. Transfer to the slow cooker.
Step 2
In the same pan, sauté the onions. Add the onions and the remaining ingredients to the slow cooker.
Step 3
Cook on low for approximately 6 hours, or until the meat comes apart with a fork.
Step 4
If you want, transfer the cooking juices to a pot and reduce to a syrupy texture.
Step 5
Serve with mashed potatoes, celeriac, or root vegetables and green veggies, to taste.

Tips

If cooking in the oven, preheat to 165C (325F). Cook covered for approximately 4 hours, or until meat comes apart with a fork.
